I gave this book four stars. It was a good book. That is with that fact that I am choosing to ignore the stepbrother/stepsister aspect.

That’s right. Fox and Dani and related. Well, Fox’s mother married Dani’s father. They shared a kiss on Dani’s eighteenth birthday and Fox was kicked out by his stepfather. He joins the army. Dani becomes a famous actress using the stage name Roxie. Fox “dies” in service. Dani is attacked and Fox comes back to rescue her. Of course the two have strong feelings for each other that hasn’t faded away over the five years they were apart and eventually Fox takes Dani’s virginity.

Again, we’re going to ignore the fact that they lived as brother and sister once upon a time.

There was action. Romance. Drama and of course, sex. This wasn’t overly long and it wasn’t too short. I managed to get through this pretty quickly but it didn’t leave me with a feeling that I was missing something.

I got a well rounded story and I really enjoyed it. Four stars enjoyed it.

What did you guys think? Let me know in the comments.

Book Discussion – Billionaires & Ballerinas

Hey 172 followers,

Back with another book discussion.

Remember to grab a copy before continuing because there may be spoilers.

Now onto the discussion…

I gave this book three stars. It was alright. A bit too short. Rose is a ballerina and she is planning to retire because her knees are getting pretty bad. Drew is a lawyer working for her big shot brother. They have basically been forbidden to see each other so they spend most of their time trading glances, until they decide to sneak around behind her brother’s back.

The book ended with them hooking up at Rose’s new place. That was it. After Drew got hit by a truck, he decides to push Rose away. Then he ends his partnership with her brother and seeks her out again.

The end.

That was a little disappointing because I think that there should have been more of a story surrounding her brother and his feelings about their relationship. The whole point of why they spent years staying away from each other and then sneaking around because they didn’t know how her brother would react and all we got was an ultimatum, him trying to prevent her from moving out and that was it. That entire conflict lasted about an entire chapter.

I never understand the point of novellas. Trying to fit so much into such a confined space. There was a lot missing from this story and so it left me wanting more.

That’s all for now.

Talk to you later.

Book Discussion – Again, Alabama

Hey guys,

Back with another book discussion. Remember to grab a copy before continuing with this post in case there are spoilers.

Now onto the discussion…

Cammie has to go home to run her families business and help take care of her mother after her back surgery. She is dreading being home as the center of the town’s gossip and to make matters worse, her siblings failed to mention that her ex boyfriend has also moved back home. Even worse, he’s doing repairs on the family home and business.

Now as someone who has left home and dreaded the moment I had to return, I can fully relate to her not wanting to come home. I can also relate to how it ended up being a good thing.

Cammie gets to bond with her family. Something that’s been missing for a while. As much as she tries to stay away from her ex Grey, It’s hard to do with him working on her house.

Grey and Cammie were like the perfect couple when they were younger and pretty much fated to be to marry, but after a stupid fight, Grey got drunk and then slept with Cammie’s best friend Deb. Neither of them said anything until Deb wound up pregnant and then she spun a tale about Grey taking advantage of her and Cammie ate it up. Then she fled and only returned for holidays.

Deb’s dead and Grey is raising his daughter with the help of his father. Once they reconnected as lovers they addressed the issue of Grey sleeping with Deb (she was jealous and seduced him of course) and then they were able to move on. One thing that didn’t get addressed was Grey using the name that he and Cammie picked out for their child for his daughter with Deb. I don’t know but that bothered me and I wanted to hear his explanation. First he sleeps with her best friend. Get’s her pregnant. Deb miscarries. He marries her anyways. Obviously sleeps with her again and gets her pregnant. Then names his daughter Samantha, which was the name he would have used had he and Cammie ever had a daughter. It was mentioned once or twice but then never really addressed. I still kind of want to know why he did it.

Other than that this was a cute story and I really enjoyed it. I gave it four stars and I’ve already added the second book to by wish list.

Now onto the discussion…

Raven is the only girl with four older brother’s who are very protective of her. They are a motorcycle family who run a bar which is the hangout for their gang Angel’s Halo. There is just one rule in this gang. Nobody touches Raven. Except Bash of course. Bash is the gang’s enforcer and after Raven turns eighteen he makes his move on her. They sneak around until her brothers find out and the oldest, who happens to be the club president, beats Bash to a bloody pulp before given his consent for the two of them to be together. But instead of claiming his prize, Bash takes off for two years. Now he’s back as club president when current president asks him to take over in his absence.

I gave this book four stars. I read a few of the reviews and people weren’t happy about the multiple points of views but I didn’t have a problem with it. It sets up the rest of the books by focusing on the other characters as well. I also felt like it helped make the story more well rounded.

Raven was a bit of a spoiled brat. Sure, Bash up and left her without so much as an explanation. Sure, he had a child and didn’t tell her, but the way she acted upon learning that news irked me. It wasn’t until she met the little girl that she warmed to the idea of being a step mother. Before that she was all up in arms about how he could leave her for his child. This was even after learning why he did it.

Felicity running off was interesting and I was a bit interested in learning what was going on with her and Hawk but then the author had to introduce Gracie and you just know the two of them are going to be an item.

I want to read the rest to learn what is going on with all of them. It was a pretty good book.

That’s it for now. Until next time…

Book Discussion – All The Things We Lost – Book One

Hey Guys,

Back with another discussion post. Please remember to grab yourself a copy before continuing because spoilers are a possibility.

Now onto the discussion…

Katie moves back home after the death of her mother to try and find a way to move past her lost. Julian is struggling to make ends meet and care for his mother after his father and brother just up and leaves. The two knew each other as kids and find that when it’s difficult to open up to anyone, they have each other.

I was in desperate need for something cute. It may take a while before I’m ready to read something dark again and I was thoroughly happy with this book. I may even grab the second book in the series and read it too.

This was the first romance that I’ve read in a while that isn’t filled with a ton of kinky sex scenes and that made me so happy. Kinky sex is cool and all, but sometimes you want to read about people who fall in love. Like actually fall in love and not in lust.

One of the things I didn’t get about this book is how everyone turned on Julian. Actually, I could get it, but I didn’t like it. Julian was a, popular kid and after his dad left suddenly he was an outcast and people avoided him like the plague. I get it, but I really didn’t like it. It made me sad about the human race, but I’m sad about the human race on a daily basis.

This was just really well written and I’m happy that I decided to give this book a chance. High five for giving unfamiliar authors a chance. Hint-Hint.

I gave this one four stars. If you love romances I would recommend this one to you.

Until the next time.

Book Discussion – Bishop’s War

John Bishop is a Green Beret Special Forces war hero who has just arrived home after being discharged with plans to marry his high school sweetheart until the war follows him home when he conveniently finds himself in the same park as two suicide bombers. Not the description used for the book but it was the best way I could describe it without giving away any spoilers. Now if you’ve read this or aren’t bothered by spoilers, please continue reading and if you are the opposite, grab yourself a copy and then come back because it’s gonna get real spoiler-ry.

Kindle – https://www.amazon.com/Bishops-War-Bishop-Book-1-ebook/dp/B01C3NDZQC/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1522536263&sr=1-3&keywords=bishop%27s+war

Now onto the discussion…

Okay, so it took me a while to finish this book but I blame that on my full-time job. If I had the time I would have flown through this. Except for the few times I had to put it down because I couldn’t see through my tears.

Can we talk about the fact that this book made me cry five times? FIVE times. That is unheard of for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a crier but I don’t typically cry while reading books (if you’re thinking about Black by TL Smith that was an exception). This may have something to do with that fact that I typically read fluffy romances. In those books you don’t get a young guy who joins the army because he looks up to his cousin only to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when a suicide bomber strikes and said cousin has to amputate his leg and then he survives surgery has a general promote him to special forces in the hospital, gets a visit from the president who lets him know how proud of him he was, only to die moments after. That was a major spoiler. PS I’m fighting back tears as I write this.

I’m not the action girl, but I was all in with this book. This author had me so invested in these characters and I didn’t want it to stop. Okay, I did but that’s for a different reason.

It was graphic at points but I felt like it worked with the story. It’s a book about war so death is expected but I read this book with so much trepidation. I prayed over and over again that the author wouldn’t kill Chris (the younger cousin) and neither the author or God heard my prayers and that wasn’t even the first death that rocked me.

I honestly don’t even know how to put how I feel about this book into words. I loved the story. The authors writing style drew me right in. He made me love certain characters and hate others.

He made me cry. There are only two books on my ‘books that made me cry’ shelf and I’ve read a lot of books.

There was action, romance, humor, emotion. If this were a movie I would watch it again.

Plus, I never thought I would be happy about reading about someone getting eaten by a lion. I am not the violent type. Violence never solves anything, two wrongs don’t make a right, turn the other cheek and all that jazz. I subscribe to all of that but the scene where Meecham (very evil) gets his may have been one of my favorite scenes.

I easily gave this story five stars. This is just the first book in the series and as much as I loved this one I don’t think I will be able to read the second one. With the number of deaths I had to endure in this book, I just know that the author isn’t going to let up on me and I don’t think I can emotionally take it.

That’s all. I can’t go on because of the tears.

Now onto the discussion…

What I love about these books are the big battles that our heroin finds herself in. They are described so well. So, in this book we find Kara on a mission to find a group of missing sensitive children (mortals who can see the supernatural). Adult sensitives are being killed and they have to deal with the nasty seirs who are sensitives but has decided to fight for the bad guys. To top things off, Kara still has to stop her demon sisters evil plan and they can’t harm the seirs because of an oath to protect all mortals.

The good stuff.

Once again Kara finds herself wanted by the mortal authorities after Lillith, the demon sister, gave her photo to the police and press and accused her of bioterrorism. What?! How the heck does a guardian walk incognito among mortals when her face is plastered on every billboard, newspaper and TV screen? This is one of the first serious things that Kara has to deal with. The mortals are out for blood trying to catch the seventeen year old terrorist.

That’s not to take away from the fact that the mortals were actually out for blood after Lillith did some wacky thing to them with a weapon built by the archangels.

Okay, so the archangels wanted to rule the mortal world at once. What? Thought the archangels were all about free will. Apparently, at one point they weren’t. Anyways, Lillith somehow got her hands on one piece of the weapon and was still able to do some serious damage with it. Mortals were attacking each other trying to rip themselves apart. Since, the author didn’t spend too much time on this bit of storyline, neither will we.

Kara kills a seir! She knew it was forbidden. Yet in a fight against the seirs and protecting the sensitives elder on her mind, she did it anyways. Like, shouldn’t there be an expection clause in the oath? No harming mortals unless they truly, truly deserve it. She knew that she would get the truth death for doing it but that didn’t matter and she wasn’t even regretful for it. I mean, can you blame her?

The oracles gave her twelve hours to complete her mission plus they explained that she would become a mortal again and never get the chance to be a GA, so I guess that was a plus.

Of course, she managed to find the other piece of the weapon and of course it was a trap. She defeated the seir king, rescued the children but my favorite part was the final battle with Lillith.

Lillith using the weapon to amplify her powers. Kara’s elemental powers awakening and washing her body in gold. But the best part was Kara’s demon powers fully awakening. I just can’t gush enough about how well this scene was written. One minute she’s fully gold and then the next she’s green. Her sister is impressed and offers to welcome her into the netherworld with open arms. Her friends show up and are shocked to see her all green. Everyone knows what that means and the children are terrified of her now. There is this brief moment where she grasps her part of the Arath (archangel weapon) and Lillith offers to teach her how to use it. For a second you’re wondering, is she going to turn to the darkside? A teeny-tiny part of you is actually hoping she does. Come one, admit it. How assume would the story have been if it had taken that turn? I can just see it now. Kara goes evil and David, Jenny and Peter have to pull her back.

Perfect.

I digress.

Kara chooses good and using her mega powers, which has gone back to gold, destroys the Arath and in the process destroys the one that Lillith is holding onto.

How surprised were you that Lillith became fully human? I mean, I was not expecting that. Perfect ending for Lillith. She gets to be the thing she hates most.

Aww, alas, Kara gets to live a mortal life with David.

Will the legion use her again? Well, there’s a sixth book so I guess it’s safe to assume yes.

I absolutely loved this book. I gave it four stars after my first read (repeat offender here) and I can’t quite figure out why. It should have been five stars considering I liked it so much. Maybe it just got better the second time around.

What dud you guys think? Let me know in the comment section and we can keep this thing going.
