Music Madness – The Walls Group – My Life

Hey Tay-Bugs (trying out a new name),

I want to welcome all of our new followers. Welcome to the colony Reasons To Resist, Arrvee Rusia, MovieBabble, Saturday Nite Reader and Milly Schmidt. I hope you guys stick around for awhile.

Now on to the blog…

I love when I discover new music. I have never been the type of person who stuck to one genre of music and I listen to a lot. I went to what was trending on YouTube, as I often do, and came across a video from The Walls Group. Now, this isn’t a group that I am familiar with. In fact, I’ve never heard of them before today.

At first, I wasn’t sure what genre this group fell under. It sounded like a little R&B but I had the feeling that it was a Gospel. They are indeed a Gospel group, but they are a part of the new gospel. The one where they mix catching beats to inspirational songs that can be played in church for the younger generation. I am in no way saying there is anything wrong with this method. Heck, I too rocked along with Kirk Franklin and I think he may have been the first one to mix R&B and Hip Hop into Gospel music.

The song was very catchy. It’s all about living your life. About people allowing you to live your life and about being yourself and not what others want you to be. I didn’t get the feeling that it was a full-on gospel song except for the hook, “He made me great, let me be great”.

That really was the only thing that leads it to be a gospel song.

The video was very fun. There were lots of colors and the words to the chorus were on the screen in big letters in a fun and playful way.

Overall, I could listen to the song again. The video held my attention and all four members have pretty good voices. I do think there needs to be a more clear definition of what genre they are singing if they are trying to break into a specific genre. It just wasn’t always clear.

Have you guys seen this video or heard the song. Tell me what you thought.
