“What?” Chris asked, turning to look at her and then down at his phone. “What did I tell you about being so nosey?” Chris closed the message and looked back up at the road.
“You know I can’t help it,” Genesis said as she turned to look at Chris. “Hey find somewhere to pull over. I have to use the bathroom.”
“Okay, I’m sure there’s a bush around here,” Chris said, jokingly.
“I am not going to use the bathroom in a bush.”
“Jeez, I never knew you were so high maintenance.”
Chris pulled the police cruiser into the parking lot of McDonalds on Flatbush Ave. Genesis figured he wanted to grab something to eat while she went to the bathroom. She did not understand how he could live off of fast food and still remain in shape like he did.
They both stepped out of the car and walked up to the door. The drive-thru was the only thing open but they knew that the workers would open the door to let them in. Chris knocked on the door and they waited for someone to answer. Genesis looked through the glass and spotted movement in the back. She hoped that meant that someone was on their way to let them inside. She started pacing as Chris knocked again. Something made her turn towards the drive-thru. She stopped in her tracks when she saw a man climbing out of the window.
“Hey!” she called out.
The man hit the ground and turned to look at her. Chris stepped over to her to see what was going on. The man took off in the opposite direction running around the building. One of the employees ran to the door to unlock it. Chris ignored him and took off towards the car.
Genesis knew she should have gotten into the car with him but she didn’t want to lose the guy so she took off on foot after him.
“Genesis!” Chris called after her.
But she didn’t stop. She made it to the back of the building and realized that there was nowhere for the man to have gone but back to the street. She ran around to the other corner of the building and spotted the man just as he made it to the sidewalk. Genesis chased after him. He had a little bit of a head start but he was fast and she was no runner. She pushed her legs to catch up. She was breathing heavy and could feel sweat forming on her upper lip. The man got to the corner and turned. Genesis saw Chris make it around the corner after him.
Why didn’t I get in the car?
She heard the shots before she made it around the corner. It was followed by a loud crash. Genesis circled around the corner and came to a stop when she saw that Chris had swirled and hit a light pole.
She turned to find the man. He was standing, aiming the gun at the car. Genesis reached for her own gun but she wasn’t quick enough.Advertisements
